Laser Cut Coaster Project

question

For this project, I was asked to create a design for a

coaster within a 3" by 3" dimension.

brainstorm

After seeing the prompt, I had to start brainstorming. I looked at images of other laser cut coasters on the internet and had a good idea of what a coaster should look like. I decided to make a mountain background with the word "Refresh" above it, because since your drink would be on top of it, you would want to refresh yourself every time you pick up your cup from the coaster.

prototyping

This is my prototype for the coaster project. I had to find a picture of a mountain landscape to image trace, and then delete the details to make it easier for the laser to raster. The thing I was concerned with was having the right colors for the laser to recognize for cutting, engraving, and rastering.

iteration/final product

I only had one iteration for this project and it turned out to be successfully printed. I was very happy with this print because it was my first time printing anything, so for a first time print, I think it looks good. The things I would change are making the text and image larger so it takes up more space on the coaster and making the raster lines thicker so I can see the mountain more clearly. Overall, I am very proud of my coaster and how it turned out- the coaster has really been useful!
