Intro Shelf Project

question

For this project, my group and I were tasked with creating a shelf for the robotics class.

brainstorm

We were adding on shelves to make more room for storage. We knew the original metal shelf had holes on the edges so we could use that to secure our shelf in place with nails, also making it able to be moved up or down as much as needed.

plan & Design

We made our CAD in Fusion360 to visualize what we would create and how we wanted the end product to look like.

Build & analyze & FINALIZE

Throughout the project, we measured, cut, sanded, and shaped wooden boards to fit the dimensions of the metal shelf in the robotics classroom. During the initial cuts, we realized the wood pieces were too long and needed to be readjusted, placing us in the build and analyze stages as we refined our measurements. As we worked, we successfully installed the shelves, but testing revealed a dip in the middle that required additional support to prevent sagging and potential breakage under weight. By adding reinforcement to the center, we improved the overall stability of the shelf, completing the project through a cycle of creating, testing, and improving our design. This was our final product with the support beam under.
